Welcome to my website!

Art is a dominant force in my life and painting has become integral to it. Being out in nature and becoming aware of its complex beauty is a necessity for me; art and nature are both a means of processing the world around me, giving me insights into myself and my emotions.

I spend a lot of time outside sketching and recording different shapes and textures, taking in the essence of the place. Back in my studio my paintings all start intuitively with no fixed idea as to the outcome. I create a textured base, using layers of paint and sometimes collage, oil sticks and charcoal, then sand back and continually repeat this process until I’ve developed a depth and a kind of history within the painting. I then block off certain areas using contrasting saturated colour and more intentional lines until and image starts to make itself clear.

I am interested in the relationship between nature and emotions and how a particular landscape can affect my inner being. In my work I examine the connection between these inner and outer worlds. I balance on the verge of reality with my emotions and memories as a guide. I want to capture fleeting moments of either an actual landscape or a memory of an emotion of being in that place.

I divide my time between Finistère in Brittany, France, and Luxembourg in the centre of Europe. Both offer unique and wonderful scenery, one being dramatic forests and lakes and one beautiful coastlines and farmlands.
